Chinese knots are very important in Chinese culture. They began as a form of traditional art in Tang and Song dynasties. Later, they spread to Japan and Southeast Asian countries. Now they are regarded as one of they symbols of Chinese culture. As for the name, it is surely meaningful. The Chinese character "结" shows people's strong wishes for "connection". And the pronunciation of the "结" is very close that of "吉"—— a character meaning "good luck" in Chinese. As a result, Chinese knots are used as a way to express happiness, love and good luck.
It is said that each Chinese knot is made of a single rope. By combining different knots with other decorations, a unique and lucky Chinese knot is done. There are many forms of Chinese knots. Different forms have different meanings. People believe that all Chinese knots can bring them good luck.
